coding and the such

been working a bit on the coding that i will need for the site and its going OK. doing some login stuff and polls etc. so they are going ok. also been working a bit more on the design side of the project aswell. but since its christmas i won't be here for a while!! probably next time i'm on will be take down my christmas tree!! hee hee hee!!

presentations, exams and christmas!

had the presentation on tuesday. got some ideas for where to go now. really liked my praxinascope!! so had a few ideas for that. not really thinking of fyp right now though, got exams to study for! and its christmas!! so probably the last post a while so i'll take this time to wish you a merry christmas and a happy new year!!

Here it is. The long awaited (and my own created) Praxinoscope.

What's a Praxinoscope you say? 

Well this is it. It is a form of viewing animations. Probably the earliest form of 'video/animation' and here it is created by moi!

Design Presentation

i am working on my design presentation. my presentation is on tuesday the 9th at 3 p.m. mine is the last of the day so i do have a fair bit of pressure... but nothing major. so along with a presentation that i am currently working on, i will use my blog to show my design ideas. i have some sketches on design ideas that i had origianlly so i'm not sure if will i scan them into the computer or will i hand them out for the people who i will be doing the presentation to. so busy busy busy!!

Design 3 with navigation 1

here is another design. Using the swirls i did last week, i rotated them and added a hue to brighten them. The Navigation is the same as the side navigation. the logo will be the evo one on my blog.

Navigation idea 2

this is again similar to the "Naviagation 1 idea".  its the same idea for navigation except the menu is at the bottom and will rise up.

Navigation Idea 1

here is a navigation idea i had. the white rectangle on the edge of the page is the menu. in flash, when you scroll over it, the menu will come out from the side with a list buttons to navigate you around the site. 

the large images are also a form of navigation. once one of the images is clicked, the user will be taken to the page that is relevant. (e.g. clicking on the stack of books will bring you to the books page where text information will be displayed AND you can then navigate to the video page for books. Also the video page can be accessed from the side menu.)

design 2

here is another rough work (although admittedly very similar to the first design idea i had). in flash once you open the home page, a white layer would scroll down to slowly display the info on the side. the images would also be animated in flash to draw the users to them. each one represents a category. the logo has changed though.

here is a rough design i came up with. the images will be animated in flash. they will be buttons that connect to another page relating to the image. e.g clicking on the ebook (which will open and close as its animation) will bring you to a page telling you about ebooks.

rough work layout!! very rough!!

here is a rough work layout i created in illustrator and then imported into photoshop. it is a very basic, first draft kind of thing so don't judge me too hard on it!! 

the submenu above 'more info' is the sub menu FOR 'more info'. I thought it would be different to have menu's going UP 5 rather than DOWN 6

i am also (as you may have noticed) still stuck on the idea of using lowercase letters for the entire site... but i still might change my mind on that one....

Logo idea

here is a rough logo idea i came up with. i quite like text only logos and hope that it will develop from there. i really like this logo.

Edited magik lantern

Here is the footage i took of the magik lantern, but i did a rough edit with iMovie. I took out the background noise and put in a sound effect of horses galloping to match it. I also added a title.

Ogham Writing

Below is a short unfinished flash idea I had. On the right is a scroll of ogham writing, on the left is a flash animation that I made to animate it. In my menu for more information on books this will be an animated button, (one of about 3) so the users eyes are drawn to the animation. once they click on the button, it will take them to a text pages with a bit of information on ogham writing. Its unfinished but its an idea!

Here are some images of 3D and 3D devices. 3D is as old as photographs so here is a handful of photos of them. The 1st image is a 3D image on a wall that looks different from different angles. The 2nd image is 3D but the 3rd image is the outside of the 2nd one... if that makes sense... so it's technically a 3D image but not how we know it. The 4th pic is a viewer to see 3D images... Cameras can't really take actual 3D images... its something that needs to be seen.

Camera Obsecura

I was in edinburgh the weekend and visited the 'Camera Obsecura' which is latin for 'Dark Room'. It has various expo's on 3D, mirror tricks etc. and deals with images etc. They also have animation and 'magik lanterns' which use the first principals of animation, that are still used to day. I took a few videos that I will upload now.

Ok so I'm onto the design stage of my project. I'm going to try and incorporate a timeline for the various topics into my fyp and as I've said before I've been researching design types but I am also heading to edinburgh tomorrow and I'm going to make a point of stopping into the camera obsecura since it has been mentioned many times in relation to video and television. 

So I won't be back onto Blogspot for the weekend. I'll try not to have too much fun and research as much as possible!! ;-)

Also have a rough work logo... its e0e (evolution of entertainment) but the last e is backwards. It was done in illustrator

Research Report and Project Proposal!

Finished off the research report and the project proposal (had to convert them to Microsoft Word Doc, since I used Neo Office) and uploaded them to moodle earlier on. I still need to print the research report, but i'll do that tomorrow in college!!

Here is an example of a website I found with the history of cinema. As you can see the site is very text heavy and not so easy on the eyes. I want to improve on sites like this that have all the technical information but it is all based on text. 

The image in the screen - shot doesn't even have anything to do with the information. It's just an advert!!

A nice timeline idea

This is a screen shot of an interactive timeline that I found. Its really well done and I recommend visiting the site to see it in full working order because the image just doesn't do it justice.

Mid-Term Break

Ok work needs to be done on research this week since we are off. The research report needs to be done, the proper project proposal needs to be done and new title needs to be thought up!! i also have been looking up design ideas since that is also due in a few weeks. 

photos galore

The first one is the way i'm feeling right now.

OK, so I've been very bad about updating my blog. My Internet connection is really crappy and my digital camera wouldn't connect to my mac... so I'm going to finally upload some photos from Cliffs of Moher.

Anyway. I've been doing research into my project. I'm finding that what I'm doing (I'm not going to say has NEVER been done before) but in the context I'm doing it, I can't seem to find anything similar to it. The closest I found was a German video (which I'll post on my blog) called 'The Evolution of Entertainment' that was more so about culture and generations etc. and some music... not really what I'm going for but interesting all the same. 

The Cliffs of Moher was quite interesting and I found some nice designs there. Its very well laid out and the interactivity was very well done. I particularly like the on the edge experience. I have some photos I'll upload from the trip. 

Also been researching the history of T.V and Film (Camera Obscura is noted in some information which is lucky because i'm heading to Edinburgh soon!)

Next step

ok next stop - RESEARCH!!!

Ok after many mishaps and stuff i have finally uploaded my proposal to moodle. I'm doing a website based on the evolution of entertainment, where i will make 6 mini documentaries that will show how we have evolved into the entertainment loving creatures that we are!! hopefully i won't change my mind between now and next blog!!!
